Preppers do not perform the installation itself and do not need to be certifiedbecause they only handle preparation tasks under direct supervision.

No, Shields Auto Glass does not perform ADAS (camera/sensor) calibrations. If your vehicle requires calibration, you’ll need to schedule that separately with a calibration shop. Most vehicles do not require calibration unless the sensors or cameras are directly disturbed during replacement, but if you’re unsure, we can help point you to trusted local shops that offer this service.

You don’t need to stay for the entire appointment — just the beginning and the end.

We ask that someone be present at the start to release the vehicle, confirm details, and give our technician access. Once we’ve finished, we’ll need someone present again at the end for payment (if paying in person) and to go over aftercare instructions and warranty details.

This makes the process simple while still keeping your vehicle secure and ensuring you have everything you need once the job is complete.

Rock chip repairs are usually quick — about 15 to 20 minutes per chip. The goal is to stop the crack from spreading by sealing it with resin. Please note that the repair will improve the appearance but may not completely disappear. After the repair, your windshield will be structurally reinforced and safe to drive immediately.

When you schedule a windshield replacement with Shields Auto Glass, we make the entire process simple, safe, and mobile:

1. Arrival & Prep
   Our technician will arrive within your scheduled time window. At least one certified technician will be on site, often with a window prepper (assistant) who helps remove trim and clean surfaces. The prepper is not required to be certified and only assists while the certified technician oversees and performs the actual installation.
2. Vehicle Check & Protection
   We’ll verify your vehicle details, confirm the correct glass, and protect the surrounding areas (dashboard, paint, etc.) with covers and tape to prevent damage. Please have your vehicle parked in a safe, accessible location(driveway or open lot) with at least 5 feet of clearance on all sides so our team can work safely.
3. Removal of Old Windshield
   The damaged windshield is carefully cut out and removed using professional tools to avoid scratching paint or damaging the body.
4. Surface Cleaning & Prep
   The old adhesive is cleaned off, the frame is inspected for rust or damage, and the bonding area is prepped with primer to ensure a secure seal.
5. New Windshield Installation
   The new windshield is installed using industry-grade urethane adhesive and precision alignment to meet safety standards. A full windshield replacement usually takes 30 to 60 minutes, but can vary depending on the technician and the vehicle.
6. Safe Drive-Away & Aftercare
   After installation, we require a minimum 1-hour safe drive-away time so the adhesive can cure properly. To protect the new seal, please:
   
   • Do not drive the vehicle for 1 week
   • Do not wash the vehicle for 1 week
   • Leave the orange tape on for 24 hours, then remove it

            7. Final Check & Payment
Once complete, you’ll return for payment, warranty details, and care instructions to keep your new glass in perfect condition while it sets.

No. While we do our best to fit customers in quickly, same-day appointments are not always guaranteed due to travel time, weather, and existing scheduled jobs. When you book online, the time you choose is a requested slot, and we will follow up to confirm or reschedule as needed. This ensures our technicians have enough time to safely complete each job without rushing.

We use OEM-spec glass, which means it’s made to the same exact safety, quality, and fit standards as the original glass your vehicle came with.

The only difference is that it doesn’t carry the manufacturer “name brand” logo, which helps keep the cost much lower while still giving you factory-quality glass.
